Today we are going to talk about a great Blender shortcut keyboard. It’s actually not any keyboard, but one that will directly help you learn and work faster utilizing shortcuts. There are 6 color-coded categories of keys that you need to be aware of:

• Orange General Operations
• Dark grey Mixed Operations
• Yellow Timeline Animation
• Light grey View Orientation
• White Collections
• Dark blue Modelling Operations

There are also three essential keys that you are going to need and use a lot in order to use this keyboard properly. These are Ctrl, Shift, and Alt. As you can see there are small dots with labels that show you exactly what will happen if you hit a combination of Ctrl, Shift or Alt. In addition to the key that has the color code.

This color coding might not seem like a necessary thing, or it might even seem to be confusing at the start. However, once you start using the Blender shortcut keyboard you will realize how important it is.

If we start from the right side of the keyboard which is less intimidating and less cluttered, we can see the keypad numbers are used for orientation. For example:

• Num 1 is used for Front View.
• Num 3 is used for Right View.
• Num 7 is used for Top View.
• Num 5 is used for Perspective View.
• Num 2 is used to view downward.
• Num 4 is used to view Left.
• Num 6 is used to view Right.
• Num 8 is used to view upward.
• And 0 to see through the camera you have in the viewport.

The Yellow keys are used to navigate through animation keyframes in addition to the space bar that starts and pauses the animation. Now if we try to use the general operations or the Orange keys we will be able to do a lot of things. As you can see: F2 allows you to rename your objects, F3 allows you to use the search tool while F4 allows you to bring the file context menu. On the other hand, F11 allows you to render view while F12 allows you to render.

If you hit Tab you will be able to toggle between Object mode and Edit mode which is something that you do a lot. Also some of the things we use a lot in Blender is transformation tools.

• S allows you to scale the objects.
• G allows you to Move them as you can see on the keyboard.

These are some of the most essential and most important shortcuts that this Blender keyboard will help you to get used to as a beginner. But if you are an experienced Blender user, there are tons of other shortcuts that I did not mention to make sure I will not make this whole thing boring.

Look and Feel

It will feel pretty different compared to mechanical or metal keyboards. However, it does make up for it in daily typing usage and also functionality that you will get used to pretty fast. Although the keyboard is mainly plastic-based, it actually does not feel made out of less durable material.

It also does not make a louder typing noise – which is a benefit when working with teams or a long day of typing and editing. Especially if you are newer to using shortcuts, it will help you to form a nice workflow for yourself – no need to google to learn what command you need to use.
