Arcane Netflix Series | How Was it Created and Animated?

In this post, I wanted to talk about something interesting, which is a very beautiful TV show that took the world by storm. It was created by Riot Games and Fortiche animation studio.

It’s the Arcane Netflix series that is based on the popular video game called League of Legends.

Why is it so buzzy around Arcane Netflix Series?

It is a huge success right now because it has set the record as Netflix’s best-rated show so far within a week of its premiere. It ranked number one on the Netflix Top 10 chart in 52 countries as well as reaching number two in the United States.

The first time Riot worked with Fortiche is when they wanted to create a music video for Jinx. While they were looking for an interesting animation style they came across this small animation studio in Paris France.

They were able to do a great job with that music video whether it was the animation, modeling, the world they featured in addition to the camera work.

The camera animation especially captured Riot game’s attention because it conveys a feeling that there is someone real behind it and shooting the whole thing was as if events were taking place in real life.

The creators of this TV show started little by little to peel out the layers and ideas to bring it to life. When they were creating the first concept art for the characters and the world they built, their first impression about the whole thing was being positively overwhelmed.

It’s because they themselves didn’t think that it’s possible that they are going to create something like this with this level of quality. And from the early previz work, they knew that this show is onto something, especially with the interesting animation style of Fortiche animation studio.

This TV show explores a fantasy world that is basically centered around 2 sisters who forge their way to become powerful fighters for causes they believe in.

I am usually not a big fan of girls being strong characters in action films or TV shows but the creators of this show made it very believable and built a story and world that lives up to expectations and more.

The weapons especially in Arcane are very interesting, at least for me because they are kind of futuristic steampunk-ish weapons powered by magical crystals which is a very interesting concept.

My Thoughts

For me, personally, as I start watching any show I try to jump in without any preconceived notions or expectations. Because I don’t want to be overhyped or maybe disappointed since I watch these shows for fun. The first episode gave me the impression that this is the kind of show that has a movie budget, since it paid a lot of attention to detail. 

This includes high-quality modeling, fantastic animation effects, lighting, etc. Everything it’s brilliant! I thought maybe that this is just a marketing technique that we usually see in TV series or TV shows, they kind of create a Hollywood Blockbuster quality at the first episode or two.

Then the quality gets deluded as you start watching more just to get you hooked, but the strange thing is that as you watch more and more, the intensity of the events, animation, story, and the world itself gets better and makes you want to watch even more. 

The team behind this did a brilliant job and I’m hooked right now. I’m watching an episode per day and it is absolutely a killer show.

The attention to detail is absolutely crazy, and the secret is their dedication, hard work. But one thing I had in mind all the time and I wanted to be answered badly is how could they create nine episodes, Each episode 40 minutes long with that quality. It’s mind-blowing.

The reason is they spent six years creating this show, which shows their dedication, hard work, determination, and love for their craft. 

Also about the story, I think it is not the most original story ever but it is not cheesy either. It is something you don’t expect going in and events are interesting, you don’t get bored especially fight scenes are fantastic.

Arcane is carefully crafted and really interesting to watch, and I personally highly recommend it, you can find it now on Netflix.
